The enlargement of experience through modern communication technologies and means of transportation also changed the sense of danger and (in)security. The Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie defense line is a wonderful example of a surveyable security situation: from 'hills', strategically placed in the flat Dutch landscape, the horizon is scanned for danger. Danger that in the 19th century could only come from water or land. The 21st century situation however is far more complex: scanning the horizon has been replaced by television, danger can come from anywhere. In a covered wooden pavilion on one of the defence line's fortresses these two situations are connected.

The pavilion offers a marvelous view of the surrounding flat landscape. There is a bench on which the public can have a seat. Incorporated in the bench are television sets that show the actual news through a CNN broadcast. A satellite dish on the roof of the pavillion transmits the signal to the tv sets.
